5/7/2008 - This Is Gonna Be Fun!

Political whore that I am, I was up until 1 a.m. last night watching MSNBC's reporting on the election returns from Indiana and North Carolina. All the way up until I finally turned off the tv, there was actually an outside chance that Obama might actually win Indiana as well as North Carolina. When you consider that Rush Limbaugh, the Hugely Fat Rich Ultra-Conservative White Talk Show HostTM, has been running a campaign called "Operation Chaos" for the past couple of months trying keep Hillary's campaign alive, it's arguable that Obama probably actually DID win Indiana. (Actually the results suggest that the HFRU-CWTSHTM didn't have an impact.)

As it turned out, she actually won by only 1.9%. If she stays in it after this point, she can kiss her political ass goodbye because she will be seen as the person who tried to torpedo the Democratic nominee. It's time for her to go back to Congress, write herself up some nice Gas Tax Holiday legislation and let Barack Obama begin the process of wiping up the floor with John McCain.

I know, I know, it's cocky to say stuff like this now; we have the whole summer and part of the fall to go. But, Jesus, McCain is now running against nobody and STILL can't get more than 80% of the vote!!!

In the last three primaries:

Pennsylvania
McCain - 73%
Huckabee - 11%
Paul - 16%

North Carolina
McCain - 73%
Huckabee - 12%
Paul - 8%

Indiana
McCain - 77%
Huckabee - 10%
Paul - 8%
Romney - 5%

If he can't win even 80% when he's unopposed, November's gonna be a fun time for Democrats. I honestly can not wait for the debates.

By the way, on the topic of the Hugely Fat Rich Ultra-Conservative White Talk Show HostTMt trying to subvert the vote in Indiana, Chris Matthews' comment late last night was whithering and spot on (video Video Here):

"Anyone who voted to screw up the political system of this country with the purpose of mischief should carry that with them the rest their lives. What a ridiculous way to use the vote for which people fought and died, to use that vote to make mischief. I hope you're proud of yourself."

That is perfect and it's a meme that should be sounded from the hills and valleys. The nauseating irony of the whole thing is that the types of people for whom this kind of bullshit resonates the most are very often the very same people who think patriotism is measured by lapel flag pinnage and "Support the Troops" signage. They'll relate to you time and again about how our troops are over their protecting our rights to free speech so we should just shut the fuck up. They'll even suggest that, were we not over there in Iraq, refereeing a civil war, our very constitutionally and God-given rights would be at risk (you know, like voting an' stuff.)

Well, good on ya, Chris Matthews. That was brilliant.

So you guys on the Wrong Right can take your Wright bloviating and your Ayers spewage and hunker down for the long slog you have ahead of you. They clearly didn't hurt Obama one bit and you've gotchyer bad selves a candidate that can barely win over the candidate Nobody.

This is gonna be fun.

I'm just sayin'...

McCain's situation reminds me of a story I heard not so long ago about a seantor being voted in despite the mild obstacle of being dead...

That was the late Mel Carnahan, former governor of Missouri, who beat out none other than John Ashcroft for a seat in the U.S. Senate in 2000. After he died in a plane crash.

People were less afraid of a dead guy than John Ashcroft.

We put the TV on at work on mute and all I saw was Rush Limbaugh's face and the results from the voting underneath. That made no friggin' sense to me, I'm all for anyone's right to convince others to vote a certain way, but what he is attempting is ridiculous.

With Hillary and her tactics, the Democrats don't need any help from Rush (whose strategy I don't agree with). The Dems need to get their stuff together (Hillary needs to bow out) before they implode, allowing McCain to steal the election. Having a Democrat as President isn't exactly a foregone conclusion.

Chris Matthews' comment late last night was whithering and spot on (video Video Here):

You know...I'd probably agree with him on this but for one thing. It's the democrats own fault for opening up their primaries. Quite frankly, all the problems they've been having with this battle going on are all their fault. They changed their primaries from all or nothing, which would have decided this long ago. And they opened them up, which would have precluded bullshit like that asshat has been trying to do.

This is gonna be fun.

I wouldn't count your chickens before they're hatched just yet. The election is far from won...in fact neither is the primary.

The general election campaign is a whole different animal than the primaries. The attacks there are kid stuff by comparison to what special interest groups will pull out in support of their candidate.

It would be foolish for either side to claim victory at this point.

I'm sorry, I don't subscribe to the worldview that it's okay to do bad things if you can get away with it. That's crap, plain and simple, and, further, it's utter and undeniable hyprocrisy, especially coming from the likes of Rush Limbaugh *shudder*.

Yeah...and it's crap that wouldn't be possible if the democrats hadn't lost their minds in 1968. Limbaugh is using their own rules against them and while he is an asshole, they have noone to blame for it but themselves.

Some folks sleep on a problem, but you can camp on one as well. Camping is for the mind what a high-speed run on the highway is for a car. It tends to blow out all the sludge that accumulates in the type of urban driving most of us are forced to do in order to earn a living.

The most alarming sign of the state of our society now is that our leaders have the courage to sacrifice the lives of young people in war but not the courage to tell us that we must be less greedy and wasteful.
